Parent letter home

Dear Parents or Guardians:

We are beginning a unit called Healthy Sexuality. The curriculum is designed to help your child make wise decisions about his or her behavior during these next few crucial teenage years. Your involvement in these decisions is encouraged throughout the unit.

Most of these lessons will have a Home Learning Opportunity. Often, students are apprehensive about communicating with parents about sexuality. They have expressed their desire for open and sensitive handling of what can be, at times, embarrassing and uncomfortable. You are encouraged to participate; if you do, please sign and return one of the slips attached to this letter. Your child will receive credit for each slip he or she returns. These Home Learning Opportunities are a way for you to share your family’s values and discover what your child is thinking about in regard to these important issues.

A meeting will be held on April 15, 2010 at 4pm and 5pm to provide a forum in which parents/ guardians may preview the curriculum and meet with me. If, after attending the meeting, you feel as though your child should not participate in this unit, please write me a note to that effect, and other arrangements will be made. Please feel free to call me if you have questions.

Sincerely

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART

Jump Rope for Heart will take place during the school day on March 5, 2010. I am so impressed with the number of 7th and 8th graders that have expressed interest in jumping for a good cause. SIXTY-SIX have signed up to take the challenge of raising a minimum of $25 and jumping over the course of 2.5 hours to earn those donations for the American Heart Association. WAY TO GO! Parents I invite you to come and watch as your child earns the right to say they jumped to save a life!
